One2One Tutoring

Many young people find it hard to achieve in school and often exit the educational system without the necessary skills to progress in life. Many also do not achieve the expected level for the basic skills of numeracy, literacy and ICT. Both of these factors impact the education and development of the young people and often lead to problems gaining places in further education and employment later in life.

Our experience of working with at risk young people has shown that to meet their needs and have the greatest impact, many require one-to-one tutoring.

We have a small team of qualified and experienced tutors who deliver targeted tutoring. When the young person is ready and willing to learn, they are matched with a suitable tutor and the sessions take place at St Marks Church, where FST are based.

The length and frequency of the sessions is worked out between the young person and the tutor, with support from other Future Skills staff if required. This allows the young person to have ownership of the sessions, and develop a sense of responsibility.
