Lean On Me Programme

The Lean on Me Programme is a targeted one-to-one mentoring programme, providing positive role models who can support and empower young people, build their confidence and give them resources to further develop themselves and reach their potential. We have both male and female mentors who consist of FST staff and volunteers.

We aim to build relationships with the young people through the mentoring, enabling us to gain their trust and therefore opening the door for us to give them all the support needed. The mentors offer objective, supportive assistance to help the young person overcome the issues and obstacles they are facing. The mentor will assist the young person in setting and working towards meeting goals - personal, social and educational, using the SMART principle as a guide.

The programme is based on weekly meetings, however the length and frequency of sessions will be based on need. The activity undertaken may range from a discussion in a café to a trip to a place of interest. At times the help can be practical, accompanying young people on visits and appointments and assisting them with filling out forms.

Through the duration of the programme we will encourage and aid the young people in engaging more in positive youth activities. We will also give young people the knowledge and tools needed to develop skills in financial management, healthy eating, personal hygiene and building and maintaining positive and stable relationships.

The long term aim of Lean on Me is to aid the progression and re-integration of young people into education, employment and to help them find a positive role to play in society.
