Future Skills Training began as a not-for profit organisation in March 2006 and became a registered charity in June 2007. We continually research and develop training programmes which seek to meet the wide variety of development needs of socially and educationally disadvantaged young people. We believe in building good relationships with all the young people to gain their trust, enabling us then to support them.
Some facts and successes include:
• Working with 24 young people in 2007, 13% of which re-integrated back into mainstream school.
• Working with 64 young people in 2008, 34% of which re-integrated back into mainstream school.
• Delivering our first L.I.F.E Programme in the autumn of 2008 with 10 young people. All said their knowledge had increased, with just under half saying they would behave differently following what they had learned.
• In 2008 began supporting a single mother of one of our young people who is making great progress with her literacy skills. In 2009 she also attended a Parenting Teenagers course delivered by one of our partners, St Marks Church!
• In March 2009 4 of the FST team completed a 10k sponsored run and raised a massive £3800.
FST works with a small team of committed and experienced tutors, trainers and volunteers with the aim of empowering young people to discover and realise their full potential. We also hope to build lasting relationships with the young people, continually supporting them and enabling FST to incorporate their ideas and feedback into the development of the charity.
Future Skills Training is governed by a board of trustees that meets three times per year.
